Material certificates from the manufacturer go missing on occasion. In the event a Mill Certificate does go missing a reasonable way to comply with materials records management is by creating an analysis certificate. By using a mobile OES or lab OES instrument, the operator can test each piece of material between 3 and 5 times. The analysis results are combined to create an average for the sample piece and the operator can save the testing data to the instrument, a USB stick or to a network hard drive. By using OES technology to document the missing metal chemistry information, operators can meet material records management goals.
